and this took every. single. ounce. of self control i had. so as i was leaving from my 4th target trip of the day, i (being proud of myself for not buying impulsively) wondered what it is about target that makes me want to throw my money away! i already knew that other people suffer from this same condition but some people take it way more seriously than others. haha!
whitney, justin and i had this conversation on our first trip to target on tuesday. (it took 3 different targets to find the lady antebellum cd because the rest were sold out. i went to one today and they were fully stocked. go figure.) i have a theory or two about why it's so easy to buy stuff at target that i've decided to share...
- i've always been very interested in color and the impact it has on people. i did a project on it in college and learned that red and yellow make people hungry. that's why all fast food restaurant signs (except for taco bell) are red and yellow (think about it. they are!). so going along with this theory, i think that red makes people spend more. i'm pretty sure it raises your blood pressure too and maybe that makes you want to buy something? (yeah, these are not very scientific theories. ha. i used to know more actual facts about how color affects people.)
- i also think that pesky little target has something to do with it! it's programmed in our minds that you're supposed to aim for the target right? so you walk in and see all these little targets and you're brain starts to go "do it! go for it!" and when speculating on whether or not to buy your 6th pair of converse sneakers...your brain is already telling you to do it. stupid little targets everywhere.
- target has really nice presentation. their design is really clean and trendy and the fact that i shop there makes me feel clean and trendy...well trendy at least. not that target is dirty...sheesh. but for some reason the same cd or movie looks blah and boring at any other store but looks so nice and shiny at target. i think it's all in the presentation.
- whitney doesn't necessarily disagree with any of these theories. but as usual she thinks i way overthink it. she just thinks target has cuter stuff and that's why we spend all of our money there.

Once again, you've totally overthought this. It's plain and simple...Target has awesome, cute, fun things that we just can't live without. That, and there's an invisible magnet that just lures us, and our dwindling checking accounts in. Thanks, Target.
And did you find the lady a cd?? HAHAHAHA
Darling best friend...it's because you do. One of these days you'll realize that I'm a brilliant person to have around because I might could count on 1 hand how many times I have been wrong. :) HA.
And...overthinK.
what i meant to comment earlier was "see everybody...i told you whitney thinks i overthink everything"
and apparently i spelled overthink wrong...but never fear, my frequently correct (and ever-so-humble) best friend pointed it out to me.
Im with you on this Target thing, I was there last night and I got what I needed and more! And now today I am thinking what can I go back for??? Do they put something in the air that makes you want to go back! Its like Vegas!
GUILTY!!! I am a fellow slave to Target! I have a theory to add...Target is supposed to be "discount-ish" shopping. I feel like it is in a similar category as Wal-mart (except 1,000,000 times better) because you can get clothing, toothpaste, and lawn furniture all in one stop. However, Because Target is pretty and awesome, I always go there and always expect I will be getting good deals. However, as you might have noticed, it is not as cheap in reality as it is in my mind. This point never hits me until I am cruising through the exit with 3 bags too many! Just a thought! :)
